One of the saddest commentaries on the Christmas season in the 21st century is the diminished perception of the season from a holy day to a holiday and the accompanying emptiness that has replaced the happiness and reverence in remembering the birth of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Dear pastor, some, if not many, of your people have been infected with the emptiness of the commercialized holiday season. The world has enveloped them in its perversion of the reason for celebration. Some may be standing at the edge of “Humbug.” Others may already be knee deep in it.
We encourage you to give each family in your church the gift of a “From Humbug to Hallelujah” Advent Devotional Calendar. When they read each day, from the beginning of Advent and on through the 12 days of Christmas, may it help them to realize how the humbug attitude may have already affected them, and may it lead them to celebrate Christmas as they never have before, lifting up the name of Christ, glorifying Him, and experiencing the fullness of joy that can never be found in anything this world has to offer.
We will be praying that the Scriptures and the devotional thoughts will minister to your people and move their attention from the emptiness of the world to the fullness of Christ.
